In real life
29 July 2010
It's been a great month since my book 'Confidence in a minute' was launched. I appeared at the iTunes Festival in their 'Meet The Author' slot at the Roundhouse in Camden.
People have some interesting pre-conceptions on what they think a confidence author is going to be like 'in real life'.
Somebody said she was pleasantly surprised that there were no headsets or sharp suits, and nobody was forced to walk across hot coals and 'feel the pain'.
Somebody else asked about the title of the book.
I told them I was round at my friend's house, and she was proudly showing me her large collection of books. All the books were themed by subject, and there was one whole shelf on self-improvement. However, on closer inspection, some of those self-help books looked suspiciously new and untouched.
"How many of these books have you actually read?", I asked her?
"About half", she replied, (a bit defensively).
"And how many of these books have you read cover to cover?"
"Er.... actually none. I always get a bit stuck reading non-fiction", she confessed.
I think most of us do find it quite hard reading a lot of non-fiction at once. That's why I wrote, 'Confidence in a minute'.
Each technique takes a minute or less. You can open the book at any page, at any chapter, and start making changes in a minute. I just wanted to make it as easy as possible.
And the iTunes Festival was an enjoyable evening, we hung around to watch writer, broadcaster and all-round good egg Stephen Fry on stage afterwards.
I'm doing plenty more events over the next few months. Do come and say hello if you get the chance, and I promise you will not be forced to walk across hot coals.
Have your say
