New wreck

13 October 2009

In the end, the weekend's planned dive on the new wreck was blown out - huge seas and a call out for the Stonehaven lifeboat on which I'm crew put paid to it. The new wreck will have to wait for the time being to be investigated - my focus for the next week or two will be a visit up to Orkney to dive the scuttled German High Seas Fleet WW I wrecks at Scapa Flow.

I was second R/O on Creemuir when she was sunk, and I suspect I am the only member of the crew to be strill alive. You may have some info re the vessel that would interest me and I may have some that would interest you. I wrote up a report at the time that I could send you if you are interested. I had thought that we were brought to Aberdeen by the pilot of the Aberdeen lifeboat, but it might have been Stonehouse. Do they keep any records. You have it that Creemuir was a 10,000tonner. I never had a ship as big as that it was more like 3500. And you quote she was built in 1905. I rather doubt it. There were some ships built in ww1 that took part in ww2 but you may be right. Incidently I am now 88 so my facts could be wrong but I have not lost any marbles as yet Noel Blacklock

Have your say
