Current north east Scotland wreck projects

22 September 2009

Over the summer we have confirmed that the SS Fernside, lost since WW II, is sitting on the bottom 4 miles off Stonehaven in 60msw, only 25 metres from the stern of the wreck of the SS Gowrie which we dived and identified 10 years ago. In the eternal darkness of the North Sea depths we had not known another wreck lay so close. They are almost touching.

SS Greenawn positively identified by location of bell 5 miles off Gourdon. This vessel had set sail from an English port bound for the Moray Firth in northern Scotland. She was never seen again after she passed Montrose. She disappeared without any distress call - there were no survivors and no wreckage found. She was listed as Missing - presumbed bombed by the Admiratly - and she is still listed as missing to this day.

Uncharted steam trawler found 5 miles off Inverbervie suspected to be Mirabelle due to collision damage towards stern on port side. No definate ID on this one yet.
