Rhys Thomas - My new book
14 August 2009
I am currently working hard on my second novel. I'm at the editing stage now and hope to be finished soon. It's due to come out next March but we'll have to see.
The book is about hope but doesn't have a title yet (I'm still deciding). I've been working on it for what seems like forever but I'm getting to the point now where I'm starting to feel quite proud of it, which is hopefully a good sign.
I quite enjoy the editing process. It's difficult (though nowhere near as difficult as it is for my editor I'd imagine!) but rewarding because I find that I can feel the book becoming noticeably better with each passing chapter. It sometimes feels like a Rolf Harris sketch; you do lots of doodles that don't seem to make any sense but then you add in a few marks here and there and it all comes together.
In between bouts of editing I've been writing a short story about a man who wakes up one day to find that all of the people in the world have disappeared. They've also left all their keys in their doors and cars so he can do whatever he wants, which is, at the moment, to wander around people's houses eating their food and driving all over the country in fast cars.
I've been listening to Regina Spektor's new album a lot lately. It's so good, her best yet in my opinion. I'm looking forward to getting Noah and the Whale's second album. I've heard a few tracks and they are excellente. Depending on how the writing goes I might be going to Green Man, where Noah and the Whale are playing so I might get to see them at last.
Right at this minute I'm watching Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods. I really like Padraig; he seems like a nice chap. If you ever see me ask me to do my impression of him. It's pretty good. Let's hope he can get another trophy for his kid to put ladybirds in, eh. Golf is such a relaxing sport to watch, like cricket but with marginally weirder costumes.
Have your say
