Happy Ever After Q&A

01 May 2009

Which is your favourite of all your books?

City Girl was special because it was my first, and Finishing Touches was special because it was the first I wrote after giving up the day job and felt like a ‘proper’ author.

Can you tell us a little about Happy Ever After?

Happy Ever After? is what happens once the honeymoon is over and real life begins.  Newly married Debbie is worried about mounting debts; she’s at her wits’ end with her new husband, Bryan, who has no desire to give up the high life and become a stay-at-home husband. With Debbie’s family all having problems of their own too, who will live happy ever after?

Who or what inspires you in life and writing?

Goodness and kindness in someone is very inspiring, but for writing I find great inspiration in reading letters to agony aunts.

What do you love about living in Dublin?

I love that it is so near the sea and the Dublin mouintains. I can walk on the seafront every day – it’s very invigorating.

What do you like reading?

I read a wide variety of books, including metaphysical books in an effort to find out what life is all about.

Who would be your ideal party guests?

My family and friends are pretty ideal as we always have great fun whenever we manage to hook up.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

Tragically, yes, every time I sit at the computer, especially if the sun is shining. Or in the summer, when my sister is having a barbeque.

What would surprise your readers about you?

I much prefer having an ‘elbows on the table’ type lunch with friends than going to posh restaurants.

Do you prefer teaching or writing?

Writing because you can do it anywhere but teaching can be very rewarding when you can see it dawn on people that this is something they can have fun with.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

Stop talking about it and just DO it.
