Publication day!
12 March 2009
I have celebrated with a substantial, life-affirming breakfast - part protein (boiled egg), part porridge (with blueberries) - in line with Tip Number 10 in the book... In fact, I have been living by the letter of my book for around six months now. I have broken idiotic habits (like the one which had me buying a Starbuck's Rise and Shine muffin every single day, simply because I passed the shop on the way to the station; these days, I walk on the other side of the street, humming gently to myself and enjoying the fact that my thighs are no longer quite such close friends). I have cut back on alcohol consumption, using the startlingly effective ruse of buying better, more delicious wine instead of masses of drink-me plonk. I have developed a taste for midnight-dark chocolate, one fabulous square at a time, not a whole bar of Fruit and Nut... There are, of course, tons more ways to change - subtly, gradually, successfully (around 97 more, to be precise). But the bottom line is that I have lost a stone. A whole stone. And no dieting. No restriction, no heart-ache, no self-hate. Reason enough, I reckon, to celebrate. That'll be dry Martinis all round, then (page 185).

I am currently on holiday in Florida, I bought your book to bring with me and have read it since I've been here and am just starting to rerad it again incase some of it didn't sink in!
Thank you Mimi for making me see that I'm not the only woman who feels like I do! I have diet buddies who I know want to see me fail, I comfort eat and I see myself differently to how other people do - I know I do! I now practice the 'nothing tastes as good as being thin' line!!
Thank you - your book is fantastic and this is the first time I have ever read a book again as soon as I have finished it.
I hope you are making a start on your next book already...!

Dear Jo
Thanks for your message – I’m so glad the book is proving useful. A huge part of weight loss lies in psychology, and beginning to think differently (about food, fashion, relationships, the lot) is the starting point for it all. As the book says, you have to change your mind to change your shape! If I were you, I’d buy the book for those “diet buddies” and see if they get the message…
With all best wishes
