Slow Train rescued by George Osborne
30 November 2011
In the small print and amid the gloom of the Chancellor's autumn statement, there's some marvellous news for a small railway line in the Home Counties, which few know about. It's called the Varsity Line (or the Marston Vale Line), which used to run from Oxford to Cambridge. Now, amid the cuts, the government is giving money to reopen much of it it all the way from Bedford to Oxford. I took a journey to celebrate it for my latest paperback, the updated 'On the Slow Train Again" out from Arrow Books on February 12 2012. A journey along the existing parts of the line is an absolute treat http://amzn.to/t3Wwty
