On the Slow Train and the Slow Tram

In my latest book, On the Slow Train Again, which comes out in a new revised edition in February 2012, I wrote about the delights of the lovely double decker 70-year-old "Balloon" trams that run along the seafront at Blackpool. Sadly next weekend will be the last day of the old tramway after more than a century, as new "bog-standard issue" continental-style trams prepare take over. Goodbye to another great British institution. Haddock, chips and mushy peas out of newspaper, swaying on the top deck, will never be the same again...
