On the Slow Train and the loss of public libraries
10 June 2011
Camden, where I live in London, has just announced the death of three of our public libraries. All over the country, just like Beeching nearly 50 years ago, they're closing libraries, cutting into the heart of local communities. Soon, just like the loss of those lovely old branch lines, you will not be able to take 'On the Slow Train' from your library branch in Sleepytown-on the-Wold - nor from my local branch near Euston station.
