Literature and the Importance of Self-help in Developing Insights
We are always encouraged to read literature; because they help us shape our destiny. Literature; as well as books of all types; are always educational, inspirational and also entertaining. Reading helps us to identify with our heritage, history and culture. It also helps us rediscover our true selves. It helps us to develop ideas. Most importantly, to develop critical and creative thinking; which can help us to handle situations in a more mature manner.
I’m an avid reader. I love reading various genres of writing. I have my own home library which is filled with various literature, magazines and old newspaper. Reading has always fascinated me. It helps me to become open-minded. I always love to be in the know about the various happening in life. Also, to understand the various concepts; which shape economies, societies and humankind in general.
I started reading literature when I was young. With that said, I loved adventure and fictional books. However, as I grew up, my taste changed. Then I stared to get attracted to literature based on the history of various cultures. Especially the European culture. If you love history; you must admit that history usually fascinates human being. Along with helping us realize the struggles, the challenges and how their efforts shaped today’s world.
How literature helps us to shape our destiny
The local library was one of the best places; which helped developed the culture of reading. Most of the historical literature; which could not be found in most local book stores were available at the local library. I was a regular client at the library. Nonetheless, I would take time to analyze most of the facts about history. As well as the way man lived in the past.
One day, while I was at the library preparing to live for home; the senior librarian called. We had become so close for the few years that he had known me. He also loved the fact that I was always present; at the various functions and events organized by the library management to mentor young kids. I always volunteered and gave all my best during such functions.
When I went to hear him out, he told me that he had a gift for me. He wasn’t much of a talkative guy. But he was cool. He gave me a book; which was well wrapped and told me that the book was worthy reading. When I arrived home, I unwrapped the present only to realize that in fact they were two book; not one. They were a bit old but well kempt. One of them was authored by Napoleon Hill – ‘Think and Grow Rich’ – and the other was ‘The Road Less Traveled’ by Scott Peck.
Understanding our self-conscious
What really made me feel treasured by the librarian; were the words he had penned down on the gift card therein. Apparently, these books had been gifted to him by his former college professor. He indicated what the professor had seen on him back then was the same thing that he had seen in me; an enthusiastic person who endeavored to help others. He was also the one who was committed to succeed in life.
The literature changed my perception in life. This was my first time I was reading self-help literature which for long I had always dismissed. I lived the fact that the authors had labored had to outlines some great proven methods; which could help a reader to visualize on success.
Self-help literature usually helps one to change the perception he uses to create goals. Along with the underlying positive thinking; which helps one to attaining the set goals. These books also try to boost the power in you by suggesting ways of confronting and resolving problems. Most of the proven ways are usually ignored by people. For instance Scott’s books suggest various ways; which can help a person have better self-understanding.
This get us in a position to accept the harsh reality about life. This is great in helping us brainstorm profound insights to tackle hurdles in life. Which eventually lead to happiness. Happiness is an art of living; which helps us to become more productive in the society. As well as to become optimistic about our ventures. It is usually the beginning of positive development in our lives; which leads to success.
Since then I have a great passion for self-help literature. They always guide me in my career, and family life. Also, help in strengthening the inner person in me. Today, I’m very positive about life. I always look forward to make each day count in bettering my life; and those of others.
