Linda Newbery, winner of the Costa Children's Book Prize 2006 with SET IN STONE, has published more than thirty books for children and young adults. She writes for a wide age-range, from her first picture-book, POSY, to SET IN STONE which has been published as an adult novel in the Black Swan imprint. In between, there are first readers such as A DOG CALLED WHATNOT, and children's books including CATCALL, AT THE FIREFLY GATE and LOST BOY, all of which are published by Random House USA as well as by Orion in the UK. Her Random House novels, THE SHELL HOUSE, SISTERLAND, SET IN STONE and FLIGHTSEND, were first published by David Fickling Books before appearing as Definitions teenage paperbacks. She has twice been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, with THE SHELL HOUSE and SISTERLAND, and CATCALL won a Nestle Silver Award. THE SANDFATHER was selected by UK IBBY (International Board of Books for the Young) as its Honour Book for Writing, 2010, and her latest publication for David Fickling Books, LOB (for younger readers) was longlisted for the 2010 Guardian Children's Fiction prize.
