Hi James, unfortunately I haven't been able to see your posting because the website won't let me into the page, but it's a very good question. I think the answer is certainly that there has never been a wider range of first class writers covering a range of interesting eras and subjects. You only have to take a look at the new Historical Writers Association (HWA) website http://www.thehwa.co.uk/ to form a quick impression of what's available. Established authors liken Bernard Cornwell and Conn Iggulden have now been joined by the likes of Simon Scarrow, Ben Kane, Robyn Young, Bob Low, Giles Kristian and Tony Riches, to name but a few. Manda Scott has developed a new series which links directly back to her Boudica books and there are dozens of others. Do we live up to Patrick O' Brian, CS Forester, Jean Plaidy or MacDonald Fraser? Well that's for others to decide, but if you love historical fiction I doubt there has ever been a wider range of quality options.
