What fun. On Sunday morning last, I appeared on Sky News to publicise the book. Of course I was just one person on a veritable conveyor belt of folk with things to flog, all of us being hustled into and out of the presence of Adam Boulton. Sounds awful, yes? But no, it was uncommon larks. Also on the show - and therefore sipping coffee in the green room - were Cerys Matthews, formerly of Welsh triers Catatonia, and Lynn Truss, her of the very successful books not published by Random House. They were both very sweet.

Best of all, though, was the presence of the mighty Peter Hook, bassist with the even more mighty Joy Division and the even mightier still New Order. I haven't seen Hooky since I interviewed New Order about their great Technique album and went on the road with them in America about 20 years ago. To my slight surprise it was all very "hail fellow well met" and we shed a middle aged tears about days gone by and good people (new Order manager Rob Gretton and Factory Records supremo Tony Wilson) who are no longer among us.

He's written a book about the Hacienda nightclub, which he helped found and which in turn helped empty his wallet. It's good. He's also got a new band with Mani from the Stone Roses and Andy Rourke from The Smiths. Three basses; so they're called Freebass. Haven't heard any music yet but wouldn't be surprised if it goes Boom-booma-boom... boom-banga-boing etc.

The old fellow was in terrific form and is yet another reason why I'm glad myself and Danny wrote this book. More soon. I'm off to think about Great Bass players (and I'm not joking).

Typical. the book's already been out a week (it's topped all the best-sellers lists thanks to people like you) and I've just got around to this blog. Baker is too busy writing, broadcasting and designing the male costumes for Strictly Come Dancing (True! He does it with his sister!), but I will be regularly updating this blog with my thoughts on football, music and the world as I/we see it. Drop back every now and then and have a look...
